Welcome back, everyone! We hope you have had a fantastic summer holidays and are looking forward to the new school year! We are so excited to getting to know you all and getting stuck into some super learning opportunities.
Our first class book this year is called The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywelt.
Poor Duncan just wants to colour. But when he opens his box of crayons, he finds only letters, all saying the same thing: His crayons have had enough! They quit! Blue crayon needs a break from colouring all those bodies of water. Black crayon wants to be used for more than just outlining. And Orange and Yellow are no longer speaking-each believes he is the true colour of the sun. What can Duncan possibly do to appease all of the crayons and get them back to doing what they do best?
We will be exploring the reasons for each crayons upset and trying to help Duncan get the crayons back on board! During our writing lessons, we will be writing labels and captions, a recount, a letter and rhyming poems. We will be working hard on including basic EGPS features such as capital letters, finger spaces and full stops in our writing.
In maths, we will be getting stuck into number and place value within 10, which includes recognising numbers as words, counting forwards and backwards from given numbers and ordering objects and numbers on number lines. We will also begin to look at addition and subtraction within 10.
We will have some very exciting opportunities as we delve into a significant event from the past – The Great Fire of London! We will be comparing life in the 17th century to our lives, baking bread just like the bakers on Pudding Lane and building our own 17th century houses to understand how the fire spread so quickly.
In Geography, we will be studying our local area. We will learn all about human and physical features, and will be going on a walk to see which of these features we can spot!
Our science topic will see us exploring the different seasons, including how we know the season is changing, what the weather is like in each season and how the changing seasons affect us.
