Welcome Back! A Wonderful New Term Ahead 

I hope you have all had a fantastic Summer Break and have enjoyed some well-deserved time together as a family. I am delighted to be welcoming everyone back to school and am really looking forward to all the exciting learning, adventures and discoveries we have planned for the term ahead!

A Term Full of Stories, Imagination & Creativity

We are going to begin our English journey with the wonderfully imaginative Boy Giant by Michael Morpurgo. This exciting story follows on from the classic tale of Gulliver’s Travels and will give us lots of opportunities to explore characters, adventures and different perspectives.

We will then take to the skies with Sky Chasers by Emma Carroll, a thrilling story inspired by the pioneering days of air travel.

Along the way, the children will become authors, letter writers, poets and storytellers, writing their own diaries, letters and poems. I can’t wait to see the unique ideas, voices and creativity that emerge as we journey through these wonderful stories together!

 

Year 4 will be travelling back in time to discover the fascinating world of the Anglo-Saxons in History, while in Geography we will be Exploring Europe and discovering more about our diverse and interesting continent.

Year 5 will be stepping even further back in time to explore the incredible world of Ancient Greece. In Geography, we will be thinking about our Changing World and Sustainability, exploring some of the challenges facing our planet and considering how we can make a positive difference.

Year 4 will be heading off on an exciting trip to Eureka, while Year 5 will be transported into the world of Ancient Greece during a special Greek Workshop. We are very excited about these opportunities to bring our learning to life!

Learning at Home

Your support at home makes such a huge difference to your child's confidence, progress and enjoyment of learning. A few small, regular routines can have a really big impact.

Read at least five times a week
Please encourage your child to read with you, to you or independently at least five times each week. Sharing a book together is a wonderful opportunity to spend time together, while also developing vocabulary, fluency, comprehension and, most importantly, a love of reading. Even a few minutes each day can make a huge difference!

Complete written spelling homework
Regular spelling practice helps children become more confident and accurate writers.

Times Tables Rock Stars
Please encourage your child to spend at least 20 minutes on Times Tables Rock Stars each week. Short, frequent bursts of practice are often the most effective way to build speed and confidence.

A special reminder for Year 4:
Timetable practice is particularly important this year as the children prepare for their Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). Using Times Tables Rock Stars on a tablet or computer is a fun way to practise regularly and build fluency.

And finally... don't forget our ‘In It To Win It’ challenge!

To be in with a chance of winning, children need to:

Complete their homework
Read five times every week
Arrive at school in the correct PE kit
Aim for 96% attendance or above

Every little effort counts, and we can't wait to celebrate the children's hard work, enthusiasm and achievements throughout the term.
