Welcome back, everyone! We hope you have had a lovely Christmas holiday and that you are refreshed and ready for another term of exciting learning!

Year 1:
Our next class book is ‘The Proudest Blue’ by Ibtihaj Muhammad and S.K. Ali.
Asiya’s hijab is like the ocean and the sky, no line between them, saying hello with a loud wave. Saying I’ll always be here, like sisters. Like me and Asiya.
Olympic medallist Ibtihaj Muhammed brings readers an uplifting, universal story of new experiences, the unbreakable bond between siblings, and of being proud of who you are.
We will be looking at the things that make us different, and how our differences make us special. During our writing lessons, we will recap our basic EGPS skills that we looked at over the autumn term. We will then move onto looking at extended our sentences using words such as ‘and’ and writing expanded noun phrases. This will put us in great standing, ready to write a fantastic character description.
In maths, we will start the spring term by looking at addition and subtraction within 20. We will then widen our place value knowledge by looking at place value within 50, before moving onto length, height, mass and volume.
In History, we will be learning about ‘Nurturing Nurses’! We will look at Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole, understanding why they are significant figures. We will compare their practices and find similarities and differences between them and nurses today.
Our Geography topic will be all about ‘Super South Africa’! We will start by exploring the continents of the world, before moving on to a comparison of life in Doncaster and life in Johannesburg. We will be looking at wildlife, schools, housing, music, food, and many more areas of life!
Our science topic will be ‘Sensitive Bodies’. We will be drawing and labelling body parts, identifying the body parts associated with each sense, comparing and grouping body parts. To further develop our skills to work scientifically, we will be recognising patterns in data, recording data in a table and measuring using non-standard units.
F2:
Our topic this term is ‘Traditional Tales’. In this topic, we will look at a wide range of stories, some of them we have seen before and some of them new!
Throughout this topic, we will be learning to describe events in greater detail, forming lower-case and upper-case letters correctly and reading simple phrases and sentences made up of words with known letter-sound correspondences. Each week, our learning will be centred around a different fiction book.
Some of our ‘Books of the Week’ we will focus on this term and ‘The Three Little Pigs’, ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’, ‘Goldilocks and Just One Bear’, ‘Suddenly!’ and many more!
In maths, we will apply our knowledge of numbers to ten from the autumn term and begin counting to 20. We will use our super number knowledge to use a number line and solve number problems. We will also look at using money, 3D shapes and much more!
Please have a look at our Spring Term Curriculum Map to see what else we will be covering throughout the term.
