We hope you have had an amazing summer break and are looking forward to a new year of learning!

 

Our first class book this year is called Harriet vs. the Galaxy by Samantha Baines.

 

Harriet discovers that her hearing-aid can do more than she ever bargained for when she finds an alien in her room. Harriet becomes the Earth’s first line of defence as the only one who can understand the invaders. Sure, her hearing-aid helps her understand aliens across the universe, if only she could understand her own feelings.

 This term, we will be following the adventures of a young girl called Harriet as she tries to solve the mystery surrounding the alien invasion of the Munchas. Along the way, Harriet will learn more about her own emotions and how to understand them. Through this exciting story, we will develop our empathy skills while creating our own diary entries, newspaper reports and poems.

In maths, we will be developing our understanding of larger numbers and place value. We will then apply this knowledge when working on addition and subtraction problems. Our Year 4 children will also be preparing for their Multiplication Tables Check, so regular timetable practice will be an important part of our learning. Please remember to keep practising at home using Times Tables Rockstars!

For science, our Year 4 children will be learning about digestion. We will discover how our bodies process the food we eat and investigate the important role our teeth have in this process. There may even be some exciting experiments along the way! Our Year 3 children will be focusing on movement and nutrition, exploring how our bones and muscles help us move and learning about what our bodies need to stay healthy.

In history, we will step back in time to the Anglo-Saxon period and find out what life was like in Britain following the departure of the Romans. During geography, we will explore the Alps, learning about this impressive mountain region and comparing life there with life here in Doncaster.

For PE, we will be developing our skills through Outdoor Adventurous Activities (OAA), as well as taking part in football and learning about invasion games. PE will take place every Wednesday, so please ensure children arrive at school wearing suitable outdoor PE kit that is appropriate for the weather.*remember to remove earrings*

 

How can I help my child at home?

Make sure you read with your child at least 5 times per week and sign their planner.

Help your child to complete their weekly spelling and handwriting homework to develop key skills

Ensure your child completes 20 minutes of Times Tables Rockstars each week to develop fluency and accuracy. Our Year 4s will complete their Multiplication Tables Check this year, so please make sure you practice as much as possible.

 

Please make sure you complete your spelling homework weekly, TT Rockstars, five reads every week, arrive in the correct PE kit and have an attendance of 96% or above to be ‘In It To Win It’!
