Miss Atkinson (Y2)

Welcome back 2A. We hope you have had the best Christmas break and are ready to leap into learning this half-term. We also give a warm welcome to Miss Turnell into our class to cover Miss Atkinson's maternity leave.

Our first class book this half-term is:

Leo and the Octopus

Isabelle Marinov

The world was too bright for Leo.

And too loud.

"I must be living on the wrong planet," Leo thought.

Leo struggles to make sense of the world. He doesn't understand the other children in his class, and they don't seem to understand him. But then one day, Leo meets Maya.

Maya is an octopus, and the more Leo learns about her, the more he thinks that perhaps he isn't alone in this world, after all.

English will be delving into our book and looking at description, feelings and personalities that will help us write a character description. We will also write a persuasive letter and a non-chronological report.

In Maths, we will discover more about money, to recognise coins, notes and solve problems.  Multiplication and Division will include timetables, arrays and equal groups. Measuring, comparing, and understanding how we use these skills.

Our History is looking at Nurturing Nurses, Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole and the way they changed healthcare and are remembered for their compassion and bravery, finding similarities and differences between them and nurses today.

Geography we will be going to the Super South Africa, a comparison of life in Doncaster and life in Johannesburg. We will be looking at wildlife, schools, housing, music, food, and many more areas of life!
