Miss Atkinson (Y2)

Welcome back 2A. We hope you have had the best Easter break and are ready to leap into learning this term.

Our class book this term is:

A children’s picture book telling the story of best friends Ben and Ray.

The story follows them from their innocent childhood, playing together, to their courageous service in the First World War and back to a lasting, peaceful friendship.

The book, written in rhyme, focused on friendship, love, and loss.

In English, our book will inspire our writing as we explore different genres. Children will have the opportunities to write their own narratives, pen an informative report, and create a setting description that brings their own imagination to life.

Using manipulatives, we will explore fractions, whole, halves and quarters. Time will be consolidated, and we will learn about time management in Maths.

In history, we travel back over 100 years ago. When a big and important war took place. It was called World War I, and it lasted from 1914 to 1918. Many people also called it The Great War or The War to End All Wars because it was the largest war the world had ever seen at that time. We will delve in and research 'what it was like in the trenches, women who helped and why they were important, research Walter Tull,  a pioneering English professional footballer and a British Army officer who became one of the first mixed-heritage infantry officers to lead white troops in battle during World War I.

Globes, aerial views, street maps, atlases, are all going to make us 'Marvellous Mappers' in Geography this term. Learning to read and draw maps, what symbols mean and creating a key for our drawing of a map of our local area.

Have a look at our Curriculum Map for the summer term below to see what other exciting things we will be doing.
