Welcome back to Our Last Term: Year 1 and 2
As we embark on the final term of the academic year, I am excited to share the wonderful learning adventures that await our Year 1 and 2 class! This term promises to be filled with engaging activities and enriching experiences across various subjects.
In English, we will dive into our class book, Where the Poppies Now Grow. This beautifully illustrated story about two best friends, Ben and Ray, who go off to fight in World War I will inspire our writing as we explore different genres. Students will have the opportunity to craft their own narratives, write an informative report, and create a setting description that brings their imagination to life.
In Maths, we will focus on fractions, time, and grouping. Through hands-on activities students will learn to identify and create fractions using shapes and classroom objects. We will also explore telling the time, helping our young learners understand the importance of time management. Grouping will be introduced through fun exercises, allowing children to work collaboratively and develop their problem-solving skills.
In History, we will travel back to World War I to learn what life was like during the war. We will explore propaganda, learn about important battles, and find out what it was like to live in the trenches. We will also learn about the amazing women who helped during the war and why they were so important. This topic will help us understand bravery, resilience, and why we remember the past.
In Geography, we will become map experts! We will learn how to draw maps, use symbols, and create a key. We will practise giving directions and even draw a map of our local area. This will help us understand the world around us in a fun way.
I am looking forward to a fun and exciting half-term full of learning, creativity, and discovery.
